A Year of Zelda: A Celebration of The Legend of Zelda’s 35th Anniversary

For awhile I’ve been wanting to do a playthrough of all the Zelda games in release order. With the series’ 35th anniversary coming up next year, I thought now would be the prefect time for it, as well as a nice build up for the Breath of the Wild sequel. I also thought it would give me a really great perspective for writing about the series.

So here’s what’s gonna happen. At least once a week, I’ll be publishing one post on the Zelda games. This will include dungeon rankings, soundtrack discussions, side and main game content, and just general thoughts on my playthrough of each game. I want to look at how the series evolves through each release. This will initially include most of the mainline games, with the possibility of expanding to Hyrule Warriors, Cadence of Hyrule, and potentially some “Zelda-like” games (I’m very open to recommendations on those). Triforce Heroes is on thin ice – maybe if I get an opportunity to play it with other people.

I’m also really open to blogging collaborations/events for this, although I’ve never led one before. So let me know if you’re interested in anything like that.

If I get streaming stuff set up I’d also like to play some Zelda games – and I’ll be looking out for anyone streaming anything Zelda-related.

I don’t have a start day for this yet – for now it’s just a ‘coming soon’ thing, but I’ve already started my playthrough and I’m really looking forward to writing about the series!

  1. Sounds fun! I’m just finishing up a couple other games in the meantime, but I’m finally gonna see my way through Windwaker. I’ve only ever got 60-90 minutes into it when I played it last.

As for “Zelda-like” games, the first ones that come to mind would be: Star Fox Adventures, Okami(always heard about similarities to Zelda games), and Lenna’s Inception – a procedurally-based dungeon game in that itch.io Racial Equality Bundle that looks strikingly similar time Link’s Awakening.

    1. Oh, I love Wind Waker! I do have Okami, just haven’t gotten around to playing it yet. And good to know there’s a game in the itch.io bundle, I’ll have to check that out, thanks!
