Halfway Through the Year: Checkpoint

This post is gonna be a short look back to the first half of the year, and a look forward to my plans for the rest of the year.

First I want to take stock based on my first post of the year, 2020 on the blog. I’ll start with 2020 releases I planned to play. Littlewood and Röki aren’t out yet, and I’m waiting for Switch releases for both of those, but I’ll definitely be checking them out in the back half of 2020. Ori and the Will of the Wisps is still on my list, but I haven’t completed Ori and the Blind Forest yet, so that’s on hold. Metroidvanias aren’t really my thing, but I’d still like to play these two.

I’ve been playing lots of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, as you can see from my blog’s Animal Crossing Diaries series. It’s been a lot of fun, although there are certainly things I don’t like about it…breaking tools is my biggest gripe.

And I’ve completed The Last of Us Part 2, which was a really incredible experience. I haven’t decided if I’ll write a post on it or not. There’s just so much that’s already been said on it. If I wrote about it, I think I’d like to do a bunch of short posts that focus on smaller elements of the game rather than one long post.

Game release schedules have been so uncertain for 2020, and I wanted to keep my list small because I have games on my backlog I want to play, but I did add a couple games to the list – Windbound, which looks heavily inspired by the Zelda games, especially Breath of the Wild and Wind Waker. I also purchases Evan’s Remains on the Switch, but I haven’t played it yet. I also have a bunch of future games without a release date on my list, but I’m just focusing on 2020 here.

Non-2020 releases I’ve completed this year include Death Stranding, Graveyard Keeper, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Oxenfree, A Short Hike, Firewatch, She and the Light Bearer, Coffee Talk, ESC, and the Link’s Awakening remake. I’ve had fun with each of them, and I’d recommend them all! I’m still working on Assassin’s Creed Odyssey (it’s so long!) and Red Dead Redemption 2. I also haven’t played Darkwood in awhile, but I’m excited to get back into it eventually. I barely started Okami and Cadence of Hyrule, but maybe I’ll get back to them soon.

There are a few games that I haven’t started at all, for a couple like Disco Elysium and Outer Wilds, I’m still holding out for Switch releases. I have Spider-man, but I want to finish Red Dead Redemption first.

There’s one other gaming quest I want to undertake, but I’m not sure if it’ll happen in 2020. I’m hoping to play through each Zelda game in release order. Ideally I’d like to do it so that I can round it off when Breath of the Wild‘s sequel releases.

Other things on the table for the rest of 2020.

Streaming? Oh yeah, I’m working on it. Most of the games I want to play are on the Switch, so I’m working on getting a capture card. I’m also working on getting a microphone. I’ll probably get a microphone first so i can try out streaming on my PS4. AND I hope to hop in on more of your streams!

Food in Video Games – I’m still working on this! Got my Legend of Zelda themed cookbook, but I’m hoping to knock out a few more recipes before I post about it. Also, video game wine pairings might be making a reappearance…

More Animal Crossing – My Animal Crossing Diaries posts are going strong and I’ll be keeping it going all year.

What have you guys played this year, and what to you plan on playing for the rest of the year?

  1. Excited for diving tomorrow in Animal Crossing! And pretty much just holding out for Ghost of Tsushima in July at this point, aside from some indies on the Switch (not sure of the release dates anymore…)
