Favorite Ice Type Pokémon

So I actually really like ice pokémon, but they’re rarely on my team because they’re usually late game pokémon. I do try to at least have a pokémon that can learn an ice type move, as it’s super helpful when battling dragon types. Without further ado, here are my favorite ice types!

Gen 1 – Kanto – Lapras

Lapras is awesome. It doesn’t need an evolution, it didn’t need a pre-evolution, it doesn’t need a mega evolution, or an alternate form. I do think its gigantamax form is pretty cool, but the point is that lapras stands out all on its own.

Gen 2 – Johto – Sneasel

I don’t think I even knew of sneasel’s existence until gen 4. After skipping gen 2 and its absence in gen 3, I didn’t play a game with sneasel until I got Diamond. There are a lot of pokémon I didn’t realize were native to Johto until Pokémon Go came out (am I a bad pokémon fan? jk all levels of pokémon fans are valid). In my defense, sneasel looks like it was designed for gen 4 (and corsola looks like it was designed for gen 3).

Gen 3 – Hoenn – Snorunt

I feel like its face should terrify me, but I just find it super cute.

Gen 4 – Sinnoh – Glaceon

According to its pokédex entries, it creates blizzards with diamond dust! I wish the storylines in pokémon games were more reflective of pokédex entries – I’d love to see a bunch of glaceon kicking up a major diamond dust storm.

Gen 5 – Unova – Cryogonal

Snowflake pokémon! My fondness for cryogonal is entirely based on its snowflake appearance.

Gen 6 – Kalos – Amaura

Amaura is one of my favorite fossil pokémon. If you read my post on things that should be in every video game, you know that auroras are one of them. Amaura has aurora-like sails on its head which change color, so even though you can’t see the sky in most pokémon games, amaura’s got it covered.

Gen 7 – Alola – Vulpix

Yes, I am counting Alolan vulpix as a gen 7 pokémon. I’m glad I got the chance to choose it here because I think Kantonian vulpix is great too, but ponyta just beats it out for me. It’s also my favorite Alolan form, just beating out sandshrew (who is also incredibly adorable). The whole arctic fox thing it has going on is awesome.

Gen 8 – Galar – Eiscue

Am I the worst for not picking snom? Snom is adorable, but I love this little penguin with an ice cube head. Plus I love that its shiny form has a pink ice cube which looks like a fruit pop.

What are your favorite ice type pokémon?
