Favorite Water Type Pokémon

It’s time to feature the second of the starter types, water! I’ll start off with a Gen 1 favorite.

Gen 1 – Kanto – Squirtle

Squirtle’s one of the classics. It had a place on my first pokémon team, and it’s a cute, blue turtle. I even have squirtle with sunglasses in Pokémon Go.

Gen 2 – Johto – Corsola

It’s coral! It’s so cool looking! I always loved fishing for corsola in Pacifidlog Town, which floats on top of a corsola colony. Too bad we couldn’t actually see the corsola colony, in the generation that introduced the move dive. Hey Game Freak, when you make Let’s Go Hoenn, please let us dive under Pacifidlog Town to see Corsola.

Gen 3 – Hoenn – Mudkip

I love mudkip. It evolves into a water/ground type, which gives it only one weakness, grass (don’t throw it up against a grass type). Though I played through Pokémon Ruby with each starter, I chose this guy for my Alpha Sapphire playthrough.

Gen 4 – Sinnoh – Piplup

I’ve been a pokémon fan for 20 years and I have…one pokémon plush. But that pokémon plush is piplup! Piplup was my starter in Diamond, and it may have been the easiest starter choice I’ve ever made.

Gen 5 – Unova – Frillish

Frillish somehow pulls off the cute and haunting look. It’s not in the leagues of pumpkaboo and phantump, who have spooky vibes, but are mostly cute. It kind of gives me a ‘beautiful woman in a flowy dress ghost’ vibe. Gosh, I’d love to see a horror pokémon spin off game where they just throw all the ghost pokémon in. And when I say horror, I mean in the not actually scary way, more like in a spooky fun kind of way.

Gen 6 – Kalos – Greninja

Greninja just reeks of cool factor. And it’s in Smash, so it’s got tons of popularity from that. There’s also an Ash Greninja you can get if you played the Sun/Moon demo.

Gen 7 – Alola – Pyukumuku

In a world of blue water pokémon, be a pyukumuku (even my gen 2 choice, corsola, is blue in its shiny form). I love blue pokémon, it’s my favorite color, but it’s nice to see a water type with a different color scheme. That being said, I would never use pyukumuku on my team. It’s probably really great for someone who knows what they’re doing. I just think pyukumuku’s cool looking.

Gen 8 – Galar – Sobble

This is my favorite Galar pokémon. I just love sobble so much. I mentioned I only have one pokémon plush, but I need my second one to be sobble. I also love both of its evolutions – not inteleon at first, but I came around quickly.

What are your favorite water types?
