Today Nintendo held a Pokémon Direct with new information on Pokémon Sword and Shield, and an announcement for Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. They also announced that Pokémon Home will be out next month, February 2020, which put me almost at 3 out of 4 for my predictions (launch date for Sleep and Home, update for Sword/Shield, and new game announcement).
I’ve never played Pokémon Mystery Dungeon before, but I’ll probably play the demo that’s out now on the switch. What I’m more excited for are the two Pokémon expansion packs announced, The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra, as well as the update released today that allows you to catch a galarian slowpoke (I’m downloading the update as I write). You will be able to evolve it into slowbro with an item found in The Isle of Armor, and slowking with an item found in The Crown Tundra.
The expansion packs will include new adventures, new areas, new gigantamax forms, and over 200 more pokémon. And if you don’t want the expansion packs, you will still be able to trade over these pokémon when the updates drop.
There will be more wild area type spaces where you can roam freely and control the camera, and a new co op feature in The Crown Tundra that allows you to go to underground den areas with all the legendary pokémon!
Check out these new forms for articuno, zapdos, and moltres! I’m super excited for these. Blastoise and venasaur will also be getting gigantamax forms – finally some starters other that charizard getting some love (still gen 1, but who knows, we could be getting more from other gens).
Remember these guys from Johto? Apricorns will be making a return in the expansion packs! Dropping hints for Let’s Go Johto?
Unfortunately we didn’t get a Gen 4 remake announcement today, which didn’t surprise me, but maybe next year!
The Isle of Armor will be out in late June 2020, and The Crown Tundra will be out in Fall 2020. Now it’s time for me to go catch that slowpoke!
